Deutsche Bahn has filed a lawsuit for damages worth 1.76 thousand million Euros in Cologne against Deutsche Lufthansa and other 17 airlines worldwide for creating a cartel fixing cargo freight prices between 1999 and 2006. According to the defence, the amounts in question were legitimate and charged to cover for example, increased fuel expenditure, and to fund specific security procedures. This is one of the biggest anti-trust claims yet to be heard in Germany. Despite the potential worth of the case, the Deutsche Bahn logistics subsidiary Schenker has stated its willingness to settle out of court. Schenker’s claim against Lufthansa amounts to 360 million Euros.
